SUMMARY:
Vijay Trisal , MD is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of General Oncologic Surgery at the City of Hope National Cancer Center. His specialty is in the surgical treatment of solid malignancies of the breast and the gastrointestinal system (esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, colonic and rectal). Dr. Trisal is highly experienced in the use of minimally invasive surgery, which minimizes pain and shortens recovery time. His expertise and special interest lies in the treatment of malignant melanomas and tumors of the soft tissues including sarcomas and bone tumors.
In the current climate where the outcome of Stage III and Stage IV melanoma has not changed in the past two decades, Dr. Trisal has focused on the use of genetic manipulations in the treatment of malignant melanomas. More specifically, his work has helped evaluate unique genes that may prove to be beneficial in treating malignant melanoma. In the treatment of sarcomas, Dr. Trisal is involved in multiple clinical trials and runs the tumor board to plan and discuss challenging and rare tumors in a multidisciplinary forum.
Dr. Trisal attended medical school at the University of Kashmir in India and trained in General Surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. He then completed a two-year surgical oncology fellowship at City of Hope where he stayed on and assumed a faculty position. Dr. Trisal has authored numerous publications and presented his work at both national and international meetings. Currently he is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, LA Surgical Society and the American College of Surgeons.
